It’s not just for pleasure, but wow, the pleasure.
Last month, I introduced readers to Ashley Manta, who coined the term “Cannasexual” for people who use cannabis to enhance their sex lives. With an aim toward removing stigmas and opening minds, Ashley’s work on the subject, inspired by her own experiences of finding relief from vaginal pain with cannabis, has even reached the pages of Newsweek. Turns out a growing number of people are experimenting with this, and for good reason. For those who are already aficionados of the plant, this probably comes as no surprise, but for people looking for some added pleasure or seeking solutions to sexual challenges like pain, anxiety, vaginal dryness or difficulties reaching orgasm, it may be worth some deeper looking into.
Foria Pleasure, a company that produces vaginal and anal suppositories and topical sprays, is at the forefront of this, with an aim toward both pain relief and an increase in pleasure. Users are claiming all sorts of amazing responses from their products, including heightened sensations, pain alleviation, powerful orgasms and absolute bliss. For those suffering from vulvodynia (pain during intercourse), which affects thousands of women, topical cannabis products like Foria’s may offer help.
So does your vagina actually get “high”?
Most users say “yes”. Sensitivity to cannabis differs person to person, but most say that the general psychotropic effect of ingested cannabis (aka “getting high”) doesn’t happen when applied topically to mucous membranes and that it’s strictly a “body high” – one that varies for everyone from being “area-specific” to full-bodied euphoria. Men generally don’t feel the effects at all, at least not on themselves (though surely, they’re enjoying the heightened pleasure of their partners). Unlike most lubricants, Foria’s topical spray needs to be applied at least 20 minutes prior to intercourse, so while this leaves out a lot of spontaneity, it does create a nice window for foreplay or prolonged self-enjoyment – and even that is an improvement in the sex lives of many people!
Author Joan Price, who wrote Naked At Our Age: Talking Out Loud About Senior Sex, a book I often recommend to clients, had this to say about Foria’s topical cannabis spray: “I wish it were legal everywhere so every woman in our age group who is experiencing muted orgasms could try it.” Only you can know if using a cannabis product is right for you, however, but if you’re open to it, it could be just the thing.
Whether for pleasure or pain management, combining cannabis and sex (and talking about it) is gaining momentum as legal access makes it more available to those who want to experiment with it. Users claim topically-applied cannabis relieves pain, assists in lubrication, helps them relax and helps many women achieve orgasms more easily (and, if countless testimonials are to be believed, much more intensely, with or without a partner).
I have to say, this brings a whole new meaning to the expression “magic carpet ride.”
