Curious about anal – prostate massage? Stimulating your prostate can lead to deeply relaxing or  highly pleasurable new feelings you may never have felt before, full-body orgasms you didn’t know you could have, as well as some amazing health benefits!

Where is it?

The reproductive system for a person with a penis is typically made up of the penis, the prostate, seminal vesicles, and testicles. It’s walnut-sized and surrounds the urethra (where urine and semen pass through. The prostate is well-protected, located inside, above the testicles, under the bladder, and in front of the rectum. It’s so well protected that the best way to access it, for pleasure or for health assessments, its via anal penetration. Here’s an image of a prostate exam to give a visual perspective.

Why does it feel good?

In short, it’s surrounded by tons of nerve endings that are responsible for pleasure. The prostate is responsible for providing seminal fluid for the transportation of sperm. When you’re aroused, it swells and helps propel semen from the penis. When stimulated, it can boost your sensations, and create powerful orgasms.

How do I do it?

Trying anal exploration when you’re already aroused  will make everything feel easier and more pleasurable. The most direct way to stimulate your prostate is through anal penetration, and it can also be indirectly stimulated by massaging the perineum, which is the area between the anus and the testicles. Starting slow is recommended, so you can gently explore which sensations you prefer and which ones don’t feel as pleasurable to you. Everyone is different and it’s important to take time to figure out what feels the best to you.

If you’re wanting more direct access, put down a towel, lube up a gloved finger and lie on the towel on your back. Start by gently circling your fingertip around the outside of the anus, and gradually a little inside if that feels good to you. You get to go at your own pace and stop whenever you feel like it.

If that’s pleasurable and you feel ready to move onto some more penetration, add some more lube to your finger (the anus does not have any natural lubrication, so lubrication with water based or silicone lube is key with all forms anal play). The prostate swells when you’re aroused, so it’s easier to locate if you’re warmed up (again, why it’s important to explore anal play when already aroused). The prostate is behind the front wall of the rectum, so try stroking it with a “come hither” motion. Avoid poking or thrusting ( although that might feel good a bit later)–we’re aiming for a massage to start out with. Many say touching the prostate gives you an urge to pee, much like the g-spot in people with vulvas.  So if you feel the urge, you’re probably in the right spot!

Stimulating the prostate alone can lead to full- body orgasms. And stimulating your penis while your prostate is being massaged can feel even more erotically pleasurable. Try stroking or being stroked while you’re exploring.

What is “Prostate Milking”

You may have heard this term before. It refers to the prostatic fluid, which is ejaculate without sperm. Sometimes it comes out before a p-spot orgasm. If it does, try to keep going, you’re probably very close!

In addition to pleasure, “prostate milking/massage” can be therapeutic and has been credited with alleviating many reproductive issues, such as:

  • Painful ejaculation: fluid blockages can sometimes happen, and prostate massage is said to clear out those blockages.
  • Trouble urinating: as people age, the prostate can become enlarged, and since it sits around the urethra, it can make passing urine difficult. Massaging the prostate can help reduce inflammation and alleviate this challenge..
  • Erectile disappointment: prostate massage used to be commonly encouraged for people who have difficulty achieving/maintaining an erection. Because it can feel so good, it can also take the pressure off of having an erection and can be used alongside other ED therapies as well.
  • Prostate health issues: according to medical research claims BPH and Prostatitis are both able to be somewhat treated by regular prostate massage.

Toys

Once you get the hang of it and know what you like, you can give your finger, or your partner’s finger, a break and try toys too. There are so many great ones to choose from. Here are a few with awesome reviews:

Remember to use a water based lubricant with your toys to keep them in good condition (unless you cover your toy with a condom in which case you can use silicone lube if you prefer that). Toys offer a lot of versatility; you can play on your own or with a partner with all of these toys. You can also wear any of these toys while penetrating, receiving oral, or being pleasured with your partner’s hands. Ease into it and enjoy discovering new forms of pleasure!

Sometimes it can take a while to get used to something new. So, while the prostate orgasm might feel like an exciting goal, try to direct your intention towards curiosity, pleasure, and fun. If you don’t orgasm the first time, it’s OK, that’s very common and expectable.. If it feels good and you want to keep doing it in the future, do it for pleasure’s sake.
